In December 2009 Hone-All Precision signed up as a ‘self-starter’ to SC21. Although many suppliers have been sponsored by top tier customers, Hone-All Precision decided to take an independent route to achieving an SC21 recognition Award. "The team here enjoys a challenge and, having successfully achieved AS/EN9100 accreditation in September 2009, we were determined to satisfy the exacting requirements of SC21 in the shortest possible timescale" said Wayne Wilson, Quality Manager and joint SC21 Champion.
Hone-All Precision provides a complete service for their customers in aerospace, defence, motorsport and other ‘demanding sectors’. Their expertise to produce high length-to-depth ratio holes, often in difficult to machine materials such as Inconel and Hastelloy, while guaranteeing excellent surface finish and straightness characteristics is key to their steady progress over the past decade. The resent relocation to larger refurbished premises along with the companywide deployment of SC21 and AS9100 was prompted by the need for increased production capacity and a more efficient process flow from raw material through to finished component.
“While the cost of these initiatives does have a direct effect on the bottom line, it is balanced over time by a reduction in our direct costs and by less easily quantified benefits such as a better working environment,” says Andrea Rodney, Director. She continued “Our lean manufacturing strategy has shortened delivery times and minimised the movement of heavy material and components through the factory. We have also reduced energy usage by installing a new roof with clear panels to let in natural light, and opting for Carbon Trust-approved, highly energy efficient daylight quality lighting throughout the factory.”

TEC were selected by Hone-All Precision to be their SC21 Strategic and Training Partner. Their sustainable continual improvement in all things has been underlined by their attainment of a converted SC21 Bronze Recognition Award to be formally presented at Farnborough Airshow 2010. The outcome, according to Dave Bull (a TEC Director) is that "as well as SC21 Bronze Award recognition of improvements in quality and delivery performance, the additional benefits of the programme include greater value-added-per-person (GVA) and improved customer relationships". He continued, "Hone-All Precision will now focus on the areas of improvement identified in the Continuous Sustainable Development Plan (CSIP) with the next goal being the Silver Award, and the company is also considering hosting a SC21 supply chain cluster".
